The purpose of the new Student Leadership Institute Conference is to introduce SU students to the skills and competencies necessary to be dynamic and effecitive leaders in a variety of settings on campus, in the community, and in organizations.
The conference theme is "Spark Your Inspiration" and is geared towards students who are looking for ways to be more involved!
The Conference is planned by students who participate in the annual Student Leadership Institute with support and guidance from staff advisors.
Areas of Focus
Professionalism and Networking: This track is designed to highlight the importance of professional growth as well as to help emerging leaders develop a sense of social engagement. Attendees should gain the skills and wisdom to develop, manage, and demonstrate confidence in professional and social settings.
Diversity: This track is designed to teach attendees to recognize, respect, and integrate differences between people and ideas. Presenters should stress open mindedness and acceptance as well as demonstrate to participants the knowledge, awareness, and skills necessary to incorporate diversity into their lives.
Health and Wellness: This track is expected to help attendees understand how health issues affect society and the community as well as the importance of balancing and maintaining physical and mental health. Presentations may provide insight on how to develop healthy methods of catharsis, or alternatively, discuss innovative and collaborative initiatives addressing campus or community health. Attendees should be exposed to the broader issues of health, why they are important, and how to address these issues using skills essential to leadership.
Community: This track is aimed at teaching perspective leaders how to get involved with groups and communities. Presenters should strive to raise awareness of the importance of engagement with groups and the community as a whole as a way of applying leadership skills to make a difference both within and outside of the SU campus.
